Thank you for your interest in our services. I hope this page will offer you a glimpse of who I am as a counselor and what counseling is like with me. Almost everything that I do in the therapy room is influenced by my belief that underneath problem behaviors, there is intrinsic good and innate wisdom in each of us. My job is to help each client learn how to unlock the connection to that goodness and find healing within him or herself. In that process, I rely just as much on my client's knowledge of themselves and their needs as I do on my training. In my personal style, I strive to balance warmth and empathy with compassionate, yet straightforward feedback. For better or worse, I am very transparent, so my clients always know what I am thinking - and probably more often than not - what I am feeling. While I have worked with a plethora of presenting problems over the years, I find myself most passionate about my work with survivors of abuse or trauma, eating disorders, mood disorders, phase of life issues and addictive disorders.

I have been working in the mental health field with adults, adolescents and couples since 1992. In 1998, I received my Masters in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Community Counseling and Addictive Disorders from Mississippi State University. My professional experience runs the gamut and includes work in the following settings - inpatient hospital, long-term residential, intensive outpatient, a college counseling center and a community mental health agency. In 2000, I took a break from my professional path to be a stay-at-home mom. In 2002, I started part-time private practice. In early 2008, I resumed a full-time caseload and founded Starkville Counseling Associates, where I also serve as director.

While my training and experience are irreplaceable tools, I learned very early that personal wellness is key to my effectiveness as a counselor. So I endeavor to stretch my personal and spiritual growth on an ongoing basis and strive to find that ever illusive place of balance…
